Goth Music: Where to Begin?...

Hello Everyone!

It's me May again. And I am extremely sorry I had not posted a single post for almost like two entire months! Gee, I'm terrible! As always I never had any time at all. This college semester was extremely rough with me. I didn't even get to have a social life at all. It was just school and homework everyday. The only thing I was waiting for was for my school semester to be over. And its finally over! Finally I can relax and not have any deadlines at all. And when I don't have anything in the way I can finally start updating my social websites like BlogSpot and Tumblr. I seriously didn't even have time for Tumblr either. And I always had time for Tumblr!
Time to finish my rambling excuse and talk about this weeks topic Goth Music. This really is a big problem if one is beginning to get into the Gothic subculture. I know I went through this problem as well. I didn't know where to begin at all. As I had already discussed in my Baby Bat and Emo Goth phases post what I had thought what Goth was mainly about. Boy I was wrong! Goth was nothing what I had thought when I was like 15 years old. One of the main problems for new comers is that they don't have any influences on the roots of the Gothic subculture. Or also they have no idea on where to exactly begin. I didn't have anyone tell me "Hey this is Post Punk music, it was a big 80's era movement that created the Gothic subculture." That's where I'm going to help in this topic.

But moving on with today's topic where to begin to research for Goth music?
The Internet. This fast, modern, and technological tool can help you research in no time what you are looking for. I think its always best to do a little research on the subculture first before you move on to listen to some "Goth" tunes. Its also always great to get knowledge that way you can be in the loop and not be the odd one left out. Believe it or not Wikipedia has a great page on what the Gothic subculture is. I'll leave a link down below so you can check it out. You can always feel free to research as much as you want, there is no limit on gaining as much knowledge there is about the Gothic subculture!

Or if you might want to look at all of the different types of Goths you might want to check this page out. It might also help you what type you prefer the best, and which one are you most like, and which one suits your tastes more.

Where to find and go listen to "Goth" music?
iTunes and Google are the best spots to listen to music. After doing a little bit of research you might find yourself that you want to listen to the different bands that you researched and how they sound like. You can always listen to the one minute previews iTunes offers of whichever song you chose to listen to. Or if you want to listen to the full song you can just Google the song. Pandora radio also offers a great mix of music as well! Another great place to go listen to "Goth" music is also your near local Goth club. What better way to listen to new music and plus you also get to see the local Goth scene as well! That's also a really great option  because that way you get to experience both things at the same time. If you don't know if there is a Goth club near you can Google it on Google Maps or just Google it online on their search engine.

Siouxsie and the Banshees

Clan of Xymox

Dead Can Dance

Cocteau Twins

Echo and the Bunnymen

The Sisters of Mercy

I hope I helped you all!
Where did you begin to listen to the first "Goth" tunes when you first started? Feel free to leave a comment and share your experience as well! :)

See you soon,
May

What Are My Goth Influences?

Hello everyone!
Its me May again and I am writing this weeks weekly post. I decided to write about this topic because I thought it would be a fun topic to write about. Plus, I think it would be a great post so you can all know more about me as well. I don't think the introduction post was that informative. As for this weeks post will be about what are my Goth influences. Every single Goth is different. We all like different things. Just like "regular" people have different tastes and opinions about things. Were all humans, and we are all different people. Just like none of us look the same, we all have different features that makes us who we are.
Now, getting on with today's topic I actually have quite a few Goth influences from the Gothic subculture. In this post I am going to talk about my fashion inclined influences. Il'll write about my music inclined ones in another post. Please note that I am writing on these influences fashion wise and not music wise or subculture wise. Getting back on track, let's get started with the list now.
First up on my main fashion influence is Gothic Lolita. Why Gothic Lolita? Because its very cute and very girly, like me. And also probably the fact I look good in this clothing too, probably due to my Asian ancestry. It is the main style component in my clothing. Gothic Lolita clothing consists of detailed black dresses with a lot of lace and a whole bunch of ruffles. It has a type of a doll-like dress to it. Kind of like the dresses that you see that porcelain dolls wear, but with a dark twist added to it. Acessories consist of roses, lace gloves, lace chokers, top hats, chunky bracelets, silver jewelry, and chunky platform lace up boots. It also has a sort of Victorian styled influence to it as well.

Another big influence to me is the Gothic Victorian/Victorian Goth. This fashion is beautiful in fashion, furniture, and architecture wise. I find this look beautiful and inspiring. The way this style looks just screams glamour to me. The thought of how people wore clothing like this on a daily basis is just amazing. Kind of makes me think "Why can't we dress like this to this day?" And I am meaning not just me, but everyone in the world. If you ask me, the Victorian era was the era with the best fashion. I mean have you taken a look today's outrageous fashion? The Victorian fashion's components consist of embroided laced corsets, long skirts, bustle skirts, petticoats to give those skirts an extra oomph. This style is now looked as a vintage look for anything classy and this style also has a romanticism look in it as well. The acessories consist of lace gloves either short or long, top hats, bonnets, vintage jewelry, pearls (I think pearls are somehow romantic inclined), lace up boots, small heeled shoes (I never see anyone wearing huge heels with this look), pretty much a look that consists of vintage glamour from back in the 19th century.

Victorian Goth

I think these two are the influences that I have on my fashion style. Since I dress in lace all the time. I don't really have any other style of dress. I do add other elements to my style. But for the most part these two styles are my main ones. What about you? What are your styles of dress? Goth or not? Share your style, I would love to know as well!

See you soon,

Introduction, Getting to know me

Me on New Years Eve

Hello Everyone!
My name is Mayra Celeste Robledo and I am just beginning to write my very own first blog! I am so excited to write in it!This is my very first post, its a bit complicated to use but I hope to get better at blogging real soon. I am not your not so average Goth girl. I am 19 years old and I graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in 2011. I live in Houston, TX in the United States. But I plan to live in Paris, France in the upcoming future. Because I plan to live in Europe. ^-^

For my career goals I plan to get a major in Architecture. Because I love Architecture. I love how everything is made and I love the historical side of it with a burning passion. I am a college student, and I attend a community college in my local area. I am currently attending Houston Community College. I also do plan to get a minor on Fashion Design because I love Fashion! I love everything to do with it! I love to put on cute and groovy clothing and I really love to give makeovers haha! What I also love about Fashion is that you are in control of how you want your outcome to look like. I'd say that is where the beauty of Fashion really is at. Unless you are paid to do a certain look, but you also taking control of what that person is wearing as well.

On the things that I like to do is mainly go shopping to get new clothing as accessories. Because you can never have too much clothing and accessories! Mainly the things that I shop for have a Gothic inclined look and a Gothic Lolita flair. Or also something with a Victorian style to it as well. I am also a bit into the visual Kei look as well. I also love to hangout with my friends, but lately I feel as if I really don't have any friends at all. So if you live in the Houston area we so have to hangout! I also really want to get to lean how to play violin because I am in love with classical music. I absolutely adore how classical instruments sound when they are played. I also feel whenever I am hearing classical music is that you are in a great ambient whenever you listen to it play. So that is my drive to leaning how to play violin.

As for my style it varies from day to day because one day I can just wear regular "Goth" clothing and the other day I am wearing Gothic Lolita clothing. As for colors I wear a lot of diverse colors. One day I can wear all blue, the other day I can wear all purple, or the next I can wear all black. For me it just depends on the outfit that I wear actually. I like to go well matched everywhere I go haha.  But keep in mind that this is my personal style and that I do not go by the usual Goth stereotypes. Because where is the fun and creativity in looking like how you want to look! And trying out many fun and different things as well! =)

As for my music tastes well lets just say that I listen to so many different genres! I listen from the traditional Post Punk, New Wave, Synthpop, Deathrock, Darkwave, and to the many genres of  Industrial to the funky and groovy Trance, Pop, Electronic, KPop, and Japanese Visual Kei music. I do occasionally listen to some Rap and R&B music but most of that is pretty late 1990's and early 2000's. Pretty much the stuff that my friends go and say "wow that song is so old!" And I just give them the stare and say "I listen to much more older music than that!" lmao XD Some of the other music genres that I rarely (pretty much never) listen to nowadays is the music that I used to listen back in high school. Those genres include Alternative Rock, Heavy Metal, Trash Metal, and Death Metal. And a little bit of Emo Hardcore. To be quite honest I feel quite uncomfortable when I listen to that. So it sits untouched on my very much loved iPod.

So now getting on to the topic on what this blog is going to be about. This is an update for this post. My first post was quite lame. And it was sort of vague and didn't really talk much about myself. I am still having trouble with BlogSpot. Which kind of sucks actually. I thought I would take less time getting the hang of it. But the only problem that I have is the adding captions thing. And when I do add them the pictures all come out together on the same line and prevents me from moving them and that is so not cool! From what I have actually have been doing in this blog is not much...Sorry everyone! But I do update every week with a different topic. I do have rambles in this blog. I haven't had any time to do haul posts because they are so time consuming. And because I buy too many things to actually put those many things in a blog haul. I think I should maybe make a YouTube channel to post those. Which I am planning to but until I get a good quality camera! So I have no idea if this is going to be a rambling blog of some sorts. But I will make an accessory post on what types of things that I wear with my outfits! Picture taken on 4/17/2013

Did I forget to mention how much I love video games?! I pretty much love Nintendo games. I loved games since I was a little kid. I remember when the Nintendo 64 came out and I used to play games like Super Mario 64, Super Samsh Brothers I, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Snap, Donkey Kong 64, The Legend of Zelda games, and the Tony Hawk games. And lets not forget the Game Boy Color and the Game Boy Advance with the Pokémon handheld games! Those are so much fun to play. I actually have Pokémon Yellow to play in my cellphone ^-^  And lets not also forget when the Nintendo Gamecube came out. I remember Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda the Windwaker, Luigi's Mansion, Pokémon XD Gale of Darkness, and Mario Kart Double Dash, and Super Smash Brothers Melee II! Picture taken on 4/18/2013
