Goth Pokemon: Gothita, Gothorita, and Gothitelle

Hello Everyone!

Its me May again, posting late as usual. I really need to break out of my procrastinating habit. It is messing with my life, like really bad. So I need to set small goals to better myself. And the first step is to quit being a lazy person. So enough of me rambling here, and on with this weeks topic.

Goth Pokémon

Could there be such a thing as gothy Pokémon?
Oh yes there is! If anyone still keeps track of Pokémon there are new Pokémon like in every generation and in the fifth generation there are indeed Goth Pokémon. I actually still watch Pokémon to this day, mainly because I want to see how it ends. And because it is undeniably a childhood favorite. But I really have no idea if they ever do plan on ending the Pokémon series. And I am also proud to say that I do own three Nintendo DS Pokémon games.

Now I am going to put pictures of the new Goth Pokémon. Gothita is the first pokemon. Second is Gothorita the evolution of Gothita. Lastly is Gothitelle the evolution of Gothorita.

Gothita

Gothorita

Gothitelle

As from what we can see firsthand on the looks of these Pokémon is that their looks concede with the Gothic Lolita fashion movement in Japan. Which to say that I am very much in love with Japanese fashion! It is so inspiring to see people over there be very creative with the clothing and makeup that they wear! But now to talk about the Gothic Lolita fashion style. It primarily consists of a Neo Victorian fashion aesthetic. Clothing consists of Victorian doll-like dresses with a lot of ruffles and bows. Just like these three Pokémon are wearing, and they also have doll-like hair. As for Gothita and Gothorita they have bows on their hair which is also a fashion accessory used in Gothic Lolita fashion style. From all three of the Pokémon Gothorita is my favorite! I think it was nice for Pokémon to create Goth Pokémon because that shows that the Gothic subculture is pretty big, and that it even inspires very famous franchises like Pokémon which is a pretty worldwide known gaming industry. And another bonus that I loved about the Pokémon franchise making these Pokémon was that it also introduces little kids to Goth and so that they can have a look at it firsthand. Why is this one important?  Its important because it shows the kiddie audience that Goth isn't a weird and creepy thing as to what the media and society makes everyone think. Like on my Facebook profile I had posted a picture I had found on Tumblr about the different perspectives of what society, media, parents, and friends perspectives on what they think Goth is. It was mostly for humor, but a very accurate picture indeed! And another thing that I love when cartoons show Gothy characters in their shows is that it makes kids aware of different fashions and it makes them more open minded about the whole fashion aesthetic that other people wear.

So I hope this post was worth reading and informative as well. What do you think about this? And how do you feel about Pokémon making Goth Pokémon? Do you like it or not? Comment down below! Until the next week's post, in which I hope I will write in time!

Books That I Reccomend: The Blood Coven Series

Hello Everyone!

Its me May again and as late as usual I am writing this week's post. I felt like I should do a book recommendation because I was reading these books a few days ago and they never get old! Originally a friend told me about these series because I looked at the cover of the book she was reading and overall it looked cool. And she let me borrow the book so I can read it myself and was not disappointed! The book that she let me borrow was The Blood Coven Series #2 Stake That! It was a very interesting read on my opinion, since I still had the vampire obsession bug during that time so I was like OMG!! Vampires!!! During my Junior year in high school. Sorry to mention my embarrassing high school teenage girl awkward phase, but yeah that's how I was when it came to vampires or anything "Gothic" as to what I thought back in my awkward high school phase. So enough of my embarrassing phase and on with the book recommendation.

The Blood Coven Series books  are written by Mari Mancusi and have eight books to them. So there is plenty to read. That is if you haven't read them already! In every book there is always like a big adventure in them which I thought it was so much fun. But I will warn you, if you do not like teenage girl romance books directed to the YA audience, then these are not the books for you. The main protagonists in these series are Sunshine (Sunny) and Rayne who are to twin sisters that look identically the same and that live in suburban Massachusetts near the border of New Hampshire. While Sunny and Rayne are identical twin sisters Sunny is just your average normal girl that enjoys her high school life, being with her friends, playing in her school's hockey team, starring in her high school's play, and enjoys her view of "normal" at least until what she thought normal was . Quite contrary is her sister Rayne who is a full fledged Goth girl,  lover of the night, enjoys funky fashion, Goth clubbing, and enjoys the darker things in life.

For being twin sisters and liking completely different things both Sunny and Rayne get along pretty well. Which I like that in these series because usually in real life you have sisters that completely hate each other and cannot see themselves in any sort of painting. The only thing that I didn't like about Sunny was that from time to time you will occasionally see that she does call Rayne, her sister a weirdo. That was the only thing I didn't like about her. Just because her sister likes different things other than the ones she likes doesn't mean Rayne is a weirdo. That's also a thing that I don't like, that they are always saying  that Goths are wierdos, how? I really do not see Goths being weird because they like a lot of 80's music. I know because I am myself a Goth girl. I mean seriously, how is that weird? Not at all if you think about it.

Okay, enough of my off topic opinion and getting on with the book recommendation so overall I have read all of the books and quite frankly I enjoyed them a lot, because both characters you can relate to a lot because they are high school teenagers going through the same stuff we go through. I also love how both Sunny and Rayne have a great sense of humor, at the beginning when I started to read the books I thought they were going to have different behaviors and attitudes because both Sunny and Rayne are pretty different from each other. Since the first book I read in the series was the #2 Stake That! book since I skipped the #1 Boys That Bite book. But since it was Mari's writing I guess she kept it the same for both characters. Which I thought it was better for the win because for sure I didn't want Sunny to be uptight and have no sense of humor at all. Or for a worst case scenario, I didn't want Sunny to be another Bella from Twilight! That would be a catastrophic event!

So this was the book cover that I saw my friend reading several years ago. To be honest when I had first seen this book I totally thought this was 90's book because of how the cover looked like. At least I thought it did.
These are actually the old covers because these books have new covers now. I actually like these covers better because they are more "old school" I guess. You don't really see covers like these any more. I kind of miss that nostalgic feeling that these covers usually gave.

These are the older covers for the other two books.

Here are the new covers for these books, there were only 3 older covers for these series. So I will put these books in order.

The first book in the Blood Coven Series Boys That Bite.
This book is written in Sunny's point of view.

The second book in the Blood Coven series is Stake That.
This book is written in Rayne's point of view. Here we get to see how different Sunny and Rayne are.

The third book in the Blood Coven series is Girls That Growl.
This book is written in Rayne's point of view.

The fourth book in the Blood Coven series Bad Blood.
This book is written in Sunny's point of view.

The fifth book in the Blood Coven series Night School.
This book is written in Rayne's point of view.

The sixth book in the Blood Coven series Blood Ties.
This book is written in Sunny's point of view.

The seventh book in the Blood Coven series Soul Bound.
This book is written in Rayne's point of view.

The eighth and the last book in the Blood Coven series Blood Forever.
This book is written in both sisters point of views, but mostly Sunny's. I was hoping for it to be written more in Rayne's point of view to be honest.

As for which of the twin sisters is my favorite character, I think that one is a pretty obvious one. I like Rayne better because she is just more funnier, and in the books that are in her point of view they are just so much better. And let us just say that I totally loved Rayne when she mentioned bands like The Sisters of Mercy, VNV Nation, Depeche Mode, Apoptygma Berserk, and Bauhaus. And let us not forget Rayne being a total gamer is a total plus too! (I am one too!) Personally that is my opinion and I pretty much relate to her fashion wise and music wise.

As for any book spoiling I will not do any because I want you all to read them! I certainly do not want to give you the entire spoilers and totally demotivate you from reading these book series. And let us just say when I give spoilers I tend to give every single detail about it all and you will end up completely uninterested. And if any of you read all of the books comment down below and tell me if you enjoyed these books or not?

See you soon,
May

Shopping for Gothicly Inclined Clothing? Where to Go?

Hello Everyone!

Its me May again and I'm ready to post this weeks topic late as usual. Sorry about that! Its just lately I have been applying to all the stores nearby my house because well I need a new job. We all need money to buy all of that super cute clothing. and accessories It doesn't pay itself, and surely money does not grow on trees. That is unless your parents have great paying jobs and you get a pretty good amount of weekly allowance. If then that is your case, you are so lucky! Unlike the rest of us have to get jobs to actually buy the things we want. But then there are always the sad cases where parents do have the money to buy their kids clothing, but refuse to because they think being Goth is a really bad thing. And thus do not want their kids to dress Goth. I will write a post about this issue as well.

This week's topic is going to be about where to shop for Gothicly inclined clothing. I honestly go to so many different stores! So I buy my clothing from many diverse places. But the place that takes 50% of where my clothing comes from are thrift stores. Why thrift stores? Because the clothing there is so affordable and you can guarantee you will find a lovely piece to add to your wardrobe to spoof up that closet of yours. But of course thrift stores are very inexpensive because it is a secondhand clothing store and therefore its clothing and items are used. But you can still find clothing in mint condition and it is very affordable. I usually go to a thrift store that's like 15 minutes away walking with my mom and were always shopping for clothing. But a little piece of advice not all thrift stores have the same prices. some can be quite expensive. Because I go to two different ones. The one that I usually go to is the one with the more green friendly prices. And the  other one I go to once in a while has their prices a little more up, but it is still pretty affordable. Because one time I went to the Buffalo Exchange thrift store, and I could not believe their prices! It was really overpriced. I was like "Seriously?! For used clothing you charge this much!" Although I will mention it had a lot of nice clothing, so I guess there one of the better thrift stores. Although there are other thrift stores like Plato's Closet and Goodwill, which I might add I have never went to those because they are really far away from where I live by. So I have no idea how much they charge. I just checked on Google maps to see where those stores are at, turns out that all of the Goodwills in Houston (since I live in Houston) all ten of them are on the West Houston area and there are no Goodwills on the East Houston are where I live at. Technically Southeast Houston but still, I am pretty disappointed that all of them are on the West area and not a single one on the East side. Total bummer! And as for Plato's Closet there isn't a single one in Houston! There is one by the Pasadena area but that isn't Houston anymore so that does not count.

As for the rest of the little stores that I go to I usually go to small shopping centers because they have good prices and for a piece of new clothing you can't beat that! A tip is that you and a few friends should just drive around town shopping together and see what small shopping centers you will encounter along the way. And trust me go to all of the stores. You never know what you will find in each of the stores. And personally I just love going to every single store, but that's just me. Going to the malls are good too, if you know which are the stores that don't sell overpriced clothing. But it is nice to splurge once in a while and treat yourself to something neat from the mall. But don't do it too much because you will be broke in a few shopping stops. And you want to buy as much as you want without emptying your wallet right away. Some mall stores that I personally like are Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, and Express.

Another way of shopping is internet shopping. Ebay is a really great choice because you don't pay shipping in some items, or if you do it might not be much either. Amazon is pretty good, but you still have to pay shipping even though it might say free shipping, because they get the stuff from companies/warehouse (that sort of thing). And for Ebay I like shopping from storekeepers from Asia, New York, and Los Angeles because they have they have the best prices ever! And most of the time the shipping is free, which is a big plus for me! Like two weeks ago I bought two pairs of spiderweb fishnet pantyhose for like $2.30 and the shipping was like $1.00. so in total that was like $5.00 of pantyhose, and normally at the store just one pair would cost $6 plus tax.

So now that I mentioned where I usually go shopping at now I'm going to share of what are the type of things that I usually look for in clothing when I go shopping. If any of you watch Goth Youtuber Kazlovesbats's (one of my favourite Youtubers by the way) video about shopping for Gothicly inclined clothing (Don't remember the exact name of the video) she also mentions going to thrift stores are like the best thing as well. And she also mentions what types of fabric you should look for while shopping at any type of store. The fabrics that she talks about are transparent/see through flowy fabrics, mesh, fishnet, a lot of Victorian like blouses that have many ruffles on them, and a lot of lace as well. She also mentioned velvet, but personally I do not like velvet, but for any of you all who does, keep an eye out if you like that too! Also look for skirts as well, or if you like pants instead then look for that too! Personally I am a skirt girl, I never wear pants. And when I do I feel so weird! Well I wear them on the house, but that's just on the house. But while I am outside out and about town I am always wearing skirts 100%.
So I pretty much look for the same things that she does, because it is true and she is right on the types of fabrics to look for while shopping.

Here is the link to Kazlovesbats's video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3k1oTi5XyA
Of course the video is Kazlovesbats (Allison Eckfeldt) So this video is hers and I am just linking this video so you can watch it and see what she has to say on the subject.

I'm going to post a few pictures. Enjoy! :)

Hair Dyeing? Other Alternatives to Still Rock That Colored Hair

Hello Everyone!

Its me May, I am so sorry AGAIN for not updating this blog in like two or maybe three weeks. I really need to get on track yet again. Mostly the reason that I haven't been updating is because well I didn't have a topic to write about. Choosing topics are quite difficult and I actually have a few topics written on a piece of paper so they will be hopefully posted every week. I was actually going to ask all of you to maybe if you have ideas of what you all would like for me to post for this blog. As you can see I am running out of steam. And if you all have ideas DO NOT HESITATE to write them down in the comments section in this post. I really am trying to post as much as possible so all of you guys can be happy with the topics I post. I just haven't had the time to get on because I am too much of a procrastinator and I have been doing other things that take up my remaining time. So sorry for all of the usual inconveniences I always have going on in my life. Now to get on with this week's post.

Hair Dye

I know for one part being any type of alternative kid in any of the alternative subcultures. Hair Dye is a must have to show how alternative you are. It is also a signal on helping on locating other like minded people in our local areas. At least how I see it! It is also a very courageous thing that I admire whenever I see other people with all sorts of colour on their hair. Why do I admire them? Because I would never have the courage to dye my lovely brunette locks. And also another reason is that well you have to keep re-dyeing your hair like every 2/3 weeks depending on the person's hair and the hair dye that they use. And let's just say that I would never be able to have any sort of unnatural hair color for too long because I frequently change my makeup color every single day and will never keep up with my hair health as well. And for me it is just better and more convenient to have my natural hair color because it goes with all the colors I use. Please note I am speaking of only myself on these last few sentences. I know for sure that other people can rock their style so well with all kinds of different colorful makeup! Which to say the truth I am a little envious of! (But in a good way of course!)

But of course hair dye is not the only way to add fun, fresh, and colorful hair to your funky outfits. There are other alternatives to having colorful hair! Which I actually use some of them. Some of these alternatives include: hair extensions, wigs, hair chalk, and coloring hair spray. I really do not how the hair chalk and the coloring hair spray stuff works but I assume you just color your hair with the chalk in the desired area you want it to be coloured. And the hair color spray you just spray it in the desired area of where you want your hair color to be coloured.

I will admit that I always wear color extensions all the time! It is a nice way to spruce up any outfit you are wearing. I will put some pictures of myself wearing color extensions.

Here is a picture of me wearing dark blue colored extensions. ^-^ Taken May 18, 2013

And here is another picture of me in a more Gothic Lolita look wearing some red colored extensions. ^-^
 Taken April 23, 2013

And what I love about hair extensions is that they look so cool in any outfit! So I highly recommend buying some and trying and to see what you all come up with! And just recently I have purchased two Lolita wigs because I really wanted to try those out! I am so stoked to try those! I can't wait till they come in the mail. And since I am always seeing in Tumblr all the time Lolitas wearing two toned split colored wigs. And I really wanted some as well! I bought the black/turquoise and the black/red wigs. I'm going to post the pictures of the wigs that I purchased and I will also add the links incase if any of you are interested in purchasing these wigs as well. If they appeal to your tastes!

This is the black/turquoise one that I purchased. The hair length of this wig is quite elongated. But I really like the way it is. And the color is just vibrant and lovely!
Black/Turquoise Lolita Wig Link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-long-straight-split-cos-4-styles-multip-list-selections-free-wig-cap-C21/320947041985?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27%26meid%3D8820614511864111222%26pid%3D100033%26prg%3D1011%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D320947041985%26

You can also buy it in another color if you would like! They also have them in red, white, and blonde.

And this the other Lolita wig that I purchased! It is the red/black one. This one was a little more expensive because the shipping was not free. But the shipping was $5. And the price was a little more. Since this wig comes with the clip on pigtails. So of course it had to be worth a little more.
Black/Red Lolita wig Link:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/60cm-long-4-colors-Lolita-clip-ponytails-wavy-cos-wigs-C22-free-wig-cap-/280934058062?pt=US_CSA_MWA_Wigs_Extensions&var=&hash=item8711e5b47b

You can also purchase this wig in various colors which include: turquoise, white, and lilac/pale pink.

And the best part of these alternatives is that your hair does not get damaged at all! Since you are not dyeing and bleaching your hair! And you still get to strut around with colorful hair when you are out and about town! But of course this post was for those wondering what to do if they did not want to dye their precious hair. But for those that do dye it, keep on rocking it and flaunt it for us to see! So I'm hoping this post was worth it and I hope you were happy with it. So that is basically the shopping I did this week, wig shopping. These wigs are actually going to be my first ones! So you can imagine how stoked I am! Well this post has come to an end and I hope you all liked it!

Oh that's right! I made a Facebook so if you would like to be friends on there too be sure to add me!

I also made a fan page! So please be sure to like it as well!

So that's about everything now. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Life Updates and Purchases

Hello Everyone!

It's me May again. I am so sorry that I haven't posted anything in almost a month. I was busy with signing up for school again. I am a college student so I have to enroll every semester for my classes and I have to make sure my financial aid has to go through so I won't have to pay for them. Since in the United States they help you pay for college or university if you can't afford it. Lucky me! I don't know how it is for other countries. And it also took more time since my brother just graduated high school this year and he was signing up for college the first time. So we had to get his stuff ready too.
And also I had gotten my first job ever last week. But, it didn't go as well as I hoped it would be. I lasted exactly a week. It was completely unfair! Because of some people that made complaints saying I was rude! Excuses moi, They were the rude ones! I was doing my job pretty ok since it was my first job ever so I was making a few mistakes here and there. Not extremely huge mistakes, just small ones. But it wasn't bad because well I was getting adjusted to the things that I did there. But of course I couldn't succeed because they expected me to do the work of two persons! That's completely outrageous so of course I was slow, I've never had experience on a job since it was my first job. They expected me to be lightning fast in there. No wonder they are always hiring there. No one can fudging keep up with that! They expected me to clear all the racks, pick up any little thing, organize the library section, organize the kid section, and they expected to help everyone else while I got no help at all, and not to mention I had to sweep after all of that! The place where I worked was at a thrift store. So I would not recommend to work in one because you will never get to purchase anything! But I think it depends on the thrift store because in the one I worked they didn't want to pay other people because they wanted to keep more money. So they had a minimum of four workers. If they would have hired around 6 or 7 it would be more better in my opinion.
That was the reason I kind of stayed a away from Tumblr for a few days because I was so angry that I got fired because of those two rude people that said I was rude! The nerve of them! I didn't want my blog to have any negativity from me. Its enough that I see some negativity from my followers that they are going through hard times, I for sure did not want to include anymore negative thoughts on my own behalf.
So now that I kind of talked a bit of what has been going on with my life, I hope you all excuse my irritating behavior. I'm pretty sure you all would be mad if you were in my combat boots as well. So now getting on with some happy news from my part I have went shopping and bought a lot of cute and gothy things, Gothic Lolita inclined of course!
First up I bought this lovely studded O ring choker in Ebay  for $20. It was a bit expensive but so well worth it!

And to compensate on my pretty long absence yet again in this blog. I am going to post a few pictures of myself. I hope you like them all! All were taken yesterday when I went shopping! 6/19/2013 ^-^

I hope you all were at least satisfied with this post. Well I hope you are all doing wonderful, and are not filled with negative thoughts like me.

See you soon,
May

My Favourite Female Music Artists! :)

Hello Everyone!

Its me May again. Finally I am back on track! This weeks topic is a very fun topic, its about my music tastes. I wanted to share with all of you on what type of music that I listen to. But its going to be about my favourite female artists. Its pretty much basically about the fun music that I listen to. I don't think its that Goth oriented, but it is still pretty sweet music. Some of my favourite artists that I pretty much never get bored of. You know those artists that you can listen to over and over again and never get bored of. Well at least to me! :) In this post I am going to mention four artists. I might make a second part to this, so stay tuned! I think I might do this for like every genre of music that I listen to. It sounds challenging and also very fun as well. The artists that I am going to mention in my post are in no particular order because they are all my top favourites.

Emilie Autumn

Emilie Autumn
Oh how much I love classical music, so of course Emilie is in this list. Emilie plays her violin beautifully in all of her songs. I also really love how she has this Victorian aesthetic in her shows and music. Its very inspiring to see all of her different styles. My favorite album is Opheliac. The reason why this is my favorite album of hers, its because I feel it so much more personal and you can relate to the lyrics of her music. Whenever I listen to Emilie's music its like I get transported to this Victorian world where everything has gone wrong, and not how the Victorian era is thought of grand and luxurious. I think that's because of The Asylum's doing. Because well it is true the Victorian era is not as beautiful as we think. Well if you are a man of course it is going to be wonderful for you, but if you are a woman, not so much. Another thing that I love about Emilie's music is that she mixes Classical Music with Industrial, that's another huge plus! As for Emilie's style it is amazing! I love how she looks like a bedraggled Victorian doll. Words that Gothic Charm School's author Jillian Venters used to describe Emilie's style.

Kanon Wakeshima
Another artist that plays a Classical Instrument! Kanon plays the cello and makes Visual Kei music. Since her music is in Visual Kei Lolita movement in Japan. She was actually the first Japanese singer that I had ever heard and it was amazing! That was so way back in my sophomore year in high school. It was when her Still Doll song had come out in the Vampire Knight anime. I really love Kanon's Victorian Lolita style, and did I forget to mention she has the looks of a doll! What I love about Kanon's music its that it has the feel of a pleasant Victorian Lolita singing dark songs. Something that the average person would not expect if they would see a Lolita girl. And the way that she sounds while singing and playing the cello is like a beautiful melody playing. As for Kanon's two albums also sound very different. Her first one sounded very dark whereas the second had a light sound to it. I still love both of them. Both are amazing albums in their own way.

Ayria
Ayria's music consists of Industrial. I really love Ayria's twist in her Industrial because it has a sort of dark pop twist in it. And her music is very upbeat, but the lyrics are very dark. I also love that her music is so personal and that you can relate so many of her songs. I love that her music is very danceable and that you can dance them at any type of club. Since it is Electronica music. As for Ayria's style I love it! Its so bold and really perky. A perfect example of Perky Goth. I actually love all of Ayria's three albums they all have their own thing going on. Each is a must listen to. I have have been waiting to hear her fourth one called Plastic Makes Perfect. Since I am still waiting to hear it on iTunes. You know so I can hear a preview. I wonder if her site has a small preview before you buy. I have to check that out.

Kerli
The last artist that I am going to mention is Kerli. I really love Kerli's music as well. Her two albums sound so different from one another. I actually have not her Utopia album yet. But I can't wait to hear it! As for her Love is Dead album I liked it a lot. To me it had an alternative-ish sound to it. As for her singles Army of Love and Zero Gravity were really great! I loved that those songs had a Synthpop feel to it, and best of all they were really upbeat and very danceable as well. As for Kerli's style is very cute and light but with a spice of dark added to it. I really love the whole Bubble Goth term that she coined to describe her style. In her video Tea Party she has this Gothic Lolita style that I love very much. And in her Zero Gravity video she has a Cyber Goth look mixed with her own Bubble Goth look.

So there it is, those are my top four Female Artists that I love and look up to a whole bunch. If you haven't heard their music make sure you give them a listen because their music is wonderful. I truly recommend their music. If you are looking to hear new music listen to these artists and you will not be disappointed. They are all completely different from each other so maybe you might not like all of them. But its worth a listen to. I'm so sorry that I couldn't add a caption in all of the pictures. My computer sucks and it doesn't show the add caption menu thing. Or BlogSpot just hates my computer and will not let me add captions to the images :/ I probably will make a second edition to this because there are more female artists that I love! So what are your top picks on  female artists? Share and comment below! I would love to hear from all of you! Follow if you like what I post, I will try to post every single week a fun topic. :)

Gore and Goth/ Alternative?...

Hello Everyone!

Its me May again. I am so sorry that this week's post is like four days late. I apologize. I've been shopping quite a lot lately. So that's what has been taking my time this entire week. I've been getting some of the cutest things and pretty much just making my wardrobe bigger. So moving on with today's topic. Yep, I know this is going to be quite a controversial topic but it has to be talked about as well.
I really don't know why I am writing about this, but I always did think it was something to talk about. I guess it was just to clear out a few thoughts. I have always seen that whether anyone is in any  alternative scene at every single alternative kid whether being Goth, Punk, Scene, Emo, Metalhead, or an Indie kid they are always so obsessed with gore. I really don't know why. I guess I just find it a tad bit odd. Personally, I myself do not really like gore at all. I like it on the movies you know to make it well...more epic haha. :D But to have a like some obsession with it, I just find it strange. Call me an observant prick but, sit down and think about what I just said. And literally sit and think and you will see what I am saying is true. Not that I am saying that liking gore is a bad thing. But, you know its one of the things that I have observed, and yes I am very observant.
On other notes let me try to make a comparison of what I am trying to say you know when lets say an article of clothing is on right now's current fashion choice and its a hot pick. And everyone is literally going bonkers just trying to get that said piece of clothing. Its like the same thing with the alternative kids going loony with something gore related.
Or maybe I just do not get it because well I'm just not into that. Clearly I am the odd one left out in here. Well I really don't find anything interesting in zombies, broken human pieces, or anything along those lines. Although, I admit I do like Faeries, Mermaids, and Vampires. But, you know I like those type of mythical things that you hear in stories all the time and some romance added to it. (And no I am not talking about Twilight.) Maybe its just that I really do not see the point is shows like The Walking Dead or something similar like that. I know we all have different tastes and everything but, clearly you do not see me going rabid over something that I simply like. My main point is why do all of the Alternative kids get like that when the topic is about gore, and why do they have like some sort of obsession with it? And all of my alternative friends used to always get like that when someone would mention the gore subject. But I don't talk with any of those people anymore, we had our differences and they couldn't cope with my differences.
*P.S: Not that I find it a bad thing, of course it is not! But why does every Alternative kid have some morbid fascination with gore? And I am hoping that you all understood what I was trying to talk about in this weeks topic and don't blow up and get mad at me!
Another thing that I would like to point out is related to the Gothic subculture its that well being a member in it doesn't mean its all about death and gore. Sure those are a few aspects, well the gore one. Since the Gothic subculture is set upon the spooky and the macabre.  As how I like to see it its about having fun and liking the things that the subculture has to offer. At least that is how I see it in my eyes. For many others in it of course it is different! We all are different people and like to embrace our individuality, and take pride in it as well.
And for last bits of this weeks delayed post I felt like that I had to post a few pictures of myself so you can all excuse the fact that I posted quite late because of my lack of time. :)

Me! :)

Goth Music: Where to Begin?...

Hello Everyone!

It's me May again. And I am extremely sorry I had not posted a single post for almost like two entire months! Gee, I'm terrible! As always I never had any time at all. This college semester was extremely rough with me. I didn't even get to have a social life at all. It was just school and homework everyday. The only thing I was waiting for was for my school semester to be over. And its finally over! Finally I can relax and not have any deadlines at all. And when I don't have anything in the way I can finally start updating my social websites like BlogSpot and Tumblr. I seriously didn't even have time for Tumblr either. And I always had time for Tumblr!
Time to finish my rambling excuse and talk about this weeks topic Goth Music. This really is a big problem if one is beginning to get into the Gothic subculture. I know I went through this problem as well. I didn't know where to begin at all. As I had already discussed in my Baby Bat and Emo Goth phases post what I had thought what Goth was mainly about. Boy I was wrong! Goth was nothing what I had thought when I was like 15 years old. One of the main problems for new comers is that they don't have any influences on the roots of the Gothic subculture. Or also they have no idea on where to exactly begin. I didn't have anyone tell me "Hey this is Post Punk music, it was a big 80's era movement that created the Gothic subculture." That's where I'm going to help in this topic.

But moving on with today's topic where to begin to research for Goth music?
The Internet. This fast, modern, and technological tool can help you research in no time what you are looking for. I think its always best to do a little research on the subculture first before you move on to listen to some "Goth" tunes. Its also always great to get knowledge that way you can be in the loop and not be the odd one left out. Believe it or not Wikipedia has a great page on what the Gothic subculture is. I'll leave a link down below so you can check it out. You can always feel free to research as much as you want, there is no limit on gaining as much knowledge there is about the Gothic subculture!

Or if you might want to look at all of the different types of Goths you might want to check this page out. It might also help you what type you prefer the best, and which one are you most like, and which one suits your tastes more.

Where to find and go listen to "Goth" music?
iTunes and Google are the best spots to listen to music. After doing a little bit of research you might find yourself that you want to listen to the different bands that you researched and how they sound like. You can always listen to the one minute previews iTunes offers of whichever song you chose to listen to. Or if you want to listen to the full song you can just Google the song. Pandora radio also offers a great mix of music as well! Another great place to go listen to "Goth" music is also your near local Goth club. What better way to listen to new music and plus you also get to see the local Goth scene as well! That's also a really great option  because that way you get to experience both things at the same time. If you don't know if there is a Goth club near you can Google it on Google Maps or just Google it online on their search engine.

Siouxsie and the Banshees

Clan of Xymox

Dead Can Dance

Cocteau Twins

Echo and the Bunnymen

The Sisters of Mercy

I hope I helped you all!
Where did you begin to listen to the first "Goth" tunes when you first started? Feel free to leave a comment and share your experience as well! :)

See you soon,

Pre-Goth Phases: Babybat and Emo Goth Phases

Hello Everyone!

It's me May again. I am so sorry I left this blog abandoned for so long. I just didn't have any time at all to get on this site. I didn't even have time to get on Tumblr, if that means anything. I had way too much homework assigned. College is rough, it sure is not like high school, where I didn't have any homework at all. Unlike high school, college leaves me with excess homework every day. But, enough of my excuses. I should be getting with today's topic. That's right, today's topic is going to be about the dreaded Babybat and Emo Goth phases *shudders*. I know none of us want to remember these times in our lifes but, it is something I would have to get through sometime in this blog. Personally, I have went through a mix of both of these phases. Not all the way, but somehow kind of like a crossover. I had a bit of both phases I guess...

I think it would be proper if I would talk about my experience in these phases first so that you all have a clue of what it was like for me when I went throught these phases. This was of course back in high school of course, back when I didn't really have a clue of what the Gothic subculture was really about. Back then for me Goth was about heavy metal and dressing all in black, all the time. Back in high school I would listen to bands like Korn, Evanescence, Slipknot, Cradle of Filth, Children of Bodom, 30 Seconds to Mars, Slayer, Metallica, Blink 182, Avril Lavigne, H.I.M, Avenged Sevenfold, Eyes Set to Kill, and Paramore. As for the fashion part, well I didn't really dress "Goth" because well, I couldn't afford the clothing. Let's face it Gothic clothing is expensive, whatever style it is. Victorian, Cyber, Lolita, Pin-Up, Ethreal, Cabaret, Fetish, Corporate, Steampunk, etc. All of it is expensive to at least have one perfectly coordinated outfit. As how I see it, I think I dressed Emo instead. Skinny jeans, Scene hair, Converse shoes, striped tees, and studded belts were pretty much the staples of my wardrobe back in 2008- and early 2011. Pathetic isn't it?

But here is the odd part during my phase in high school, while I did all of that stuff to embrace my alternative side. I never said I was a Goth, instead I just said I was a rocker chick. I think the reason was because well, like I said earlier of the perception I had of Goth back then. I didn't dress like a Goth, more like an Emo kid. But back then, I also had the perception of Goth the styles of: Victorian, Gothic Lolita, and Romantic Goth, and Vampire Goth.

Me in late 2010...

Now that I shared with you all my personal experience of being in those phases for a few years. If you noticed my phases started quite late I was 14 or 15. Usually the Babybat phases take place in teenagers with the ages of 11 or 12. I somehow feel like a late bloomer of some sorts lol. Now time to get on with what these phases I am talking are all about.

What is a Babybat?
Spooky kids, Kindergoths, Mansonites, Mallgoths...these pre-teen or early-teen types are known by many names, most of which are derogatory. They are often regarded with scorn and contempt by older members of the Goth community. Their crimes? Generally, not being old enough to remember the 80s, not being rich enough to afford a “proper Goth” wardrobe, and not being wise enough to know the “right” music to listen to or the “right” amount of make-up to wear.
It is true that, while Baby Bats often consider themselves “Goth,” they show quite a number of differences from members of the original scene; they tend to show a preference for metal (Marylin Manson and HIM being typical “Baby Bat” music), wear clothes that reflect metal/skater fashion
and tend to go for a “shocking” rather than “aesthetic” appearance.

What is an Emo Goth?
Although the term “Emo” has been around for over a decade or so to describe a particular genre of Punk, it has recently become a buzzword of the 21st century to describe the features of the contemporary youth fashion movement. Visually a hodgepodge of many different styles including Punk, Retro, a touch of urban Japanese and Goth, it was inevitable that Emo would start demonstrating crossovers with Goth at some point.
Those Emos who cross over more than most into the Goth spectrum can be identified by their dyed black hair, black nail varnish, black eyeliner and a love of skulls and piercings. They will blend all these elements with other “typical” emo elements, such as Converses, horn-rimmed glasses, stripe and star patterns, and accents of bright colour (very often pink).
Emos, like Goths, enjoy their music, and Emo Goths (or Gothy Emos) may listen to My Chemical Romance, The Rasmus or Funeral for a Friend (great Gothy name after all).
Emos have a reputation for being rather moody, as do Goths, so one would expect an Emo Goth to be ultra-moody. This may be true of some, but many are too fond of children’s cartoons, old computer games, cute accessories and Tim Burton films to really be considered uber-dark.

So, what do you think of this? Did you go through any phases of the ones that I mentioned in this post? Leave your responses below if you did, I would love to know how your experience was. Hopefully much better than mines!

What Are My Goth Influences?

Hello everyone!
Its me May again and I am writing this weeks weekly post. I decided to write about this topic because I thought it would be a fun topic to write about. Plus, I think it would be a great post so you can all know more about me as well. I don't think the introduction post was that informative. As for this weeks post will be about what are my Goth influences. Every single Goth is different. We all like different things. Just like "regular" people have different tastes and opinions about things. Were all humans, and we are all different people. Just like none of us look the same, we all have different features that makes us who we are.
Now, getting on with today's topic I actually have quite a few Goth influences from the Gothic subculture. In this post I am going to talk about my fashion inclined influences. Il'll write about my music inclined ones in another post. Please note that I am writing on these influences fashion wise and not music wise or subculture wise. Getting back on track, let's get started with the list now.
First up on my main fashion influence is Gothic Lolita. Why Gothic Lolita? Because its very cute and very girly, like me. And also probably the fact I look good in this clothing too, probably due to my Asian ancestry. It is the main style component in my clothing. Gothic Lolita clothing consists of detailed black dresses with a lot of lace and a whole bunch of ruffles. It has a type of a doll-like dress to it. Kind of like the dresses that you see that porcelain dolls wear, but with a dark twist added to it. Acessories consist of roses, lace gloves, lace chokers, top hats, chunky bracelets, silver jewelry, and chunky platform lace up boots. It also has a sort of Victorian styled influence to it as well.

Gothic Lolita

Gothic Lolita

Another big influence to me is the Gothic Victorian/Victorian Goth. This fashion is beautiful in fashion, furniture, and architecture wise. I find this look beautiful and inspiring. The way this style looks just screams glamour to me. The thought of how people wore clothing like this on a daily basis is just amazing. Kind of makes me think "Why can't we dress like this to this day?" And I am meaning not just me, but everyone in the world. If you ask me, the Victorian era was the era with the best fashion. I mean have you taken a look today's outrageous fashion? The Victorian fashion's components consist of embroided laced corsets, long skirts, bustle skirts, petticoats to give those skirts an extra oomph. This style is now looked as a vintage look for anything classy and this style also has a romanticism look in it as well. The acessories consist of lace gloves either short or long, top hats, bonnets, vintage jewelry, pearls (I think pearls are somehow romantic inclined), lace up boots, small heeled shoes (I never see anyone wearing huge heels with this look), pretty much a look that consists of vintage glamour from back in the 19th century.

Victorian Goth

I think these two are the influences that I have on my fashion style. Since I dress in lace all the time. I don't really have any other style of dress. I do add other elements to my style. But for the most part these two styles are my main ones. What about you? What are your styles of dress? Goth or not? Share your style, I would love to know as well!

Remembering to What I Used to Listen to...

Hello everyone!
Its May again and it has been quite some time I have updated anything in here. I figured I should update and not keep this blog abandoned any longer. I just haven't had any time since school started again for me and I have been quite busy, getting used to my classes, and just out and about in town with friends. but, I will update every friday from now on to make weekly posts in here. So there will be weekly posts from now on.
Now getting to today's topic, its going to be about music as the title says it all. It was just a thought that came into my mind a while back, and I felt the need to post about it. I didn't post it earlier since I didn't have any time until now. I am going to admit being a Goth for a few years has changed me a whole lot, and for the better. But, now I am just remembering about my high school years and the type of music I used to listen to back then. Just the thought of it makes me freak out and never want to mention it to anyone but, at the same time it gives a nostalgic feeling and with a part of amuse added to the side as well. It also gives me a feeling that I grew up a whole lot these past few years that have passed by very fast.
Now getting to the part about sharing to you all about this teeny bit embarassing fact of what I actually listened to (Don't laugh!). This band list consists of: Evanescence(The one band on here that is not really that embarassing), Paramore, ACDC, 30 Seconds to Mars, Metallica, System of A Down, Avenged Sevenfold, The Offspring, Avril Lavigne, Children of Bodom, Atreyu, Cradle of Filth, Eyes set to Kill, Ozzy Osbourne, Slipknot, Breathe Carolina, Linkin Park, Slayer, The Fray, Kittie, Simple Plan, Korn, A Day to Remember, Pantera, Kill Hannah, Breaking Benjamin, Green Day, Three Days Grace, My Chemical Romance, Bullet For My Valentine, The Used, Suicide Silence, and the Japanese anime music that I used to like back when I was super into anime. You get the point, pretty much alternative music. This is just a short list, since my brain is fried and I cannot think about any other bands. :/

Evanescence

Paramore

Eyes Set to Kill

Avril Lavigne

Like I said earlier this just makes me freak out and it makes me want to dig underground and never be seen ever again. But now that I think about it how much I have changed so much on my music tastes. It almost feels irrational to me. Once again time is a factor on how much people can change. And I am just an example to prove this. I am getting off topic here, getting back to the subject. I really don't know if I am the only one that feels this way when I think about the bands that I used to listen to when I first got into the alternative scene. But another thing is that I am also thankful for these first bands that I listened to, because they got me into the alternative scene. And then later in time I kind of strayed away from this and I was wondering in the different type of alternative scenes, seeing which one was more exciting to me. And overall when one gets into the alternative its mostly because its like something one has never experienced before and you just want more. But thinking about that now I like different music and the other day I gave a go to Paramore and Evanescence on my ipod, it just wasn't the same anymore. I didn't feel it anymore. That feeling when you listen to a song and you love it. I didn't get that feeling anymore, I don't know why if its one of the bands I loved back then like 4 years ago. Sure, I liked the song. But, the spark for alternative  rock music isn't there anymore. Am I the only one that is going through a nostalgic moment? I really hope not! What about you? Have you felt anything like this about music you have liked a few years back?

See you soon,
May
